Shri Suresh Chandra Giri is a seasoned Water Resource Engineer with over 50 years of experience in the field. He began his career in 1964 with the Irrigation Department of Uttar Pradesh and has since worked on a variety of projects spanning different countries and organizations.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree from the University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), obtained in 1964. He furthered his education by earning a Master of Engineering in Geotech from the same university in 1993. Additionally, he pursued a Master of Business Administration from the Indira Gandhi National Open University in 1995.
He is a member of several professional associations related to engineering and water resources, including the Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Water Resource Society, Indian Concrete Institute, Indian Society for Engineering Geology, Indian Society for Rock Mechanics & Tunneling Technology, and Indian Society for Earthquake Engineering.
His early career involved roles such as Assistant Engineer, Executive Engineer, and Superintending Engineer with the Irrigation Department of Uttar Pradesh. He has served in various capacities, including as Chief Engineer (Planning) in the Irrigation Department of Uttar Pradesh and as Executive Director at the Tehri Hydro Development Corporation. He has worked on numerous projects, both nationally and internationally, with organizations like TAHAL Consulting Engineers Ltd., URS Scott Wilson Pvt Ltd, and various government departments. His responsibilities have included conducting surveys, investigations, and designing irrigation and drainage systems. He has also been involved in rehabilitation projects, hydrological studies, and quality control of dam works.
